One of the characteristic of art is that it cannot be bounded in syllabus. You cannot learn art solely by going to college or by taking tuitions. Like any other art from music is also a medium of expressing. Learning music from the college helps in understanding the technicalities of classical music and with the help of it you can create some good compositions, but if you want to create an outstanding everlasting composition you must think like a great composer, i.e. you must think beyond the technicalities.
You can make a good composition even if you don’t know the full technicalities of ancient music. You just have to learn about thinking in phrases and how to put ideas on paper.
A most common way suggested by many music theory books is to create one complete structure i.e. melody harmony climax everything included in it. It is a way of making a composition but for a new composer who find it difficult to block out the entire session of music, let me tell you that it’s not the only way.
The 8 bar phrases are generally used in creating musical composition and you might have heard about it. It is very easy space to work and with the help of it you can build small sections and then you can convert them into the larger sections. For example, if you want to create a melody starting with a F major, just write out the eight bars on the paper and notate the key you are playing.
The first two keys gives you a melodic idea and then write out the chord changes like, the next two bars comes out to be B flat major. Working in same fashion you can create large sections. One thing you will notice is that in 8 bar phrases it is easy to add phrases of music.
